My dvd home theater system just died, I heard by xmas they are phasing out dvd players and movies, and will just be selling blu ray. Which should drop the price of blu ray home theaters.
DVD format will definitely phase out like the beta, vhs, laser disc and the VCD. All because of much im,proved picture and audio quality thanks to the huge capacity of informations optical disc and drives are capable of storing. The entry of HD flat screen TV's that are high definition is also a factor to consider whydvd dvd movies a change in format to 720p or 1080p resolutions compared to DVD's 480p. Although bluray could still play dvds and vcds, high definition blu-ray videos has come a long way when it comes to clarity on both audio and video signal. When manufacturers start selling portable stand-alone Blu-ray players at an economical cost, then DVD's will join the other obsolete items .Maybe companies will stop production soon but players will still be around at least a couple of year.
probably not until the new format that will rdvd dvd movieseplace blurays is released. and that wont be this year. blu ray home theaters are already pretty low, they only cost maybe a 100 more than a dvd version if that. its just that bluray players can do more than just play a disc, which is what makes them cost lots more than a dvd player.
Dvd isn't going anywhere for a long time. blurays aren't as revolutionary as dvds were to vhs rendering them completely obsolete.
itll still be a few years, the dvd market is still strong
